Argumentative Text with a free school theme

on Monday 26 February 2024, my colleague and I (Naura Ardine / 26) learned several steps in creating argumentative texts. I learned a lot starting from selecting the title from the specified theme, namely "free school", developing the title through the thesis, arguments that strengthen the thesis, and the conclusion of the argumentative text. Here are the results of my learning work with my colleagues :

Invesment in the Nation's Future with free education

Thesis

Education is the human right of every individual, and access to quality education is an important foundation for a country's social and economic progress. High education costs often become an obstacle for many people in achieving a decent education. Free education is an important step to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to get an education.

Argument

Free education opens the door to opportunity for all levels of society, regardless of their economic background. By eliminating the cost of education, people from low-income or disadvantaged families no longer have to bear the heavy financial burden of obtaining an education. This ensures that a person's talents and potential are not hampered by financial limitations, thereby creating a society of more equality and opportunity.

Free education also has a broad positive impact on a country's economy. By increasing literacy levels and educational qualifications among citizens, countries can create a more skilled and educated work force. This triggers long-term economic growth because a skilled workforce tends to be more productive and innovative, and is able to increase the country's global competitiveness.

In addition, free education also contributes to reducing social and economic disparities. When everyone has equal access to education, the gap between rich and poor can be reduced significantly. This creates a more inclusive and equitable society, where every individual has equal opportunities to achieve success and develop personally.

Cunclision

Overall, free education is an invaluable investment in a country's future. By creating broader access to quality education, countries can build more advanced societies, stronger economies, and fairer opportunities for everyone. Therefore, the government and society must work together to ensure that free education remains a priority in the national development agenda for reducing social and economic disparities.

argumentative text

 1. Languange function :

Argumentative texts are written to reveal the author's views or stance on a particular case, phenomenon or theory.  Another goal of argumentative text is to influence behavior with the author's views or opinions explained in a logical and data-based way.

2. Text Structure :

•Title

The title is the name that is used as a reference for the main idea that the author wants to convey.

•Thesis

The thesis is the first part of the argumentative text which contains a general statement about the topic to be discussed.

•Argument

an argument is a part of text that proves or conveys reasons with the aim of convincing which involves proposing and defending an opinion that is being argued.

•Recommendation

Contain recommendation about the issue.

3. Language components/features :

•It contains the author's thoughts, ideas, views, and opinions.

•It is accompained by logical reasons, facts or events that occurred, as well as information from several sources such as data, graphics, pictures, and other things that can be accepted by reason.

•It is presented using analysis and analogy.

•It is usually written as a non-fiction text and ends with a conclusion.

example I :

"Benefits of Reading Books in the Digital Era"

In this increasingly sophisticated digital era, many people are switching from reading printed books to reading via digital devices such as tablets and smartphones. However, even though technological advances make access to information easier, it is important to consider the benefits of reading printed books in self-development.

Reading printed books provides a richer sensory experience than reading digitally. By holding a book, smelling the pages, and feeling the texture of the paper, readers are more thoroughly involved in the reading process, which can increase understanding and appreciation of the content being read.

Reading printed books tends to allow a person to focus and concentrate better. Without the distraction of notifications or blue light from gadget screens, readers can more easily understand and absorb the material they are reading.

Reading printed books also helps in separating time for interaction with the digital world. By setting aside time to read a physical book, one can escape the distractions of technology and experience a deep sense of calm.

In this fast-paced digital era, reading printed books still has irreplaceable value in personal development. Considering the richer sensory experience, increased concentration, and separation from the digital world, reading printed books remains relevant and beneficial in enriching our lives. Therefore, let's continue to maintain the habit of reading printed books even though the digital world is increasingly dominating.

example II :

"Overcoming Bullying at School"

Bullying at school is a serious problem that can damage students' mental and emotional well-being. Although there have been efforts to overcome this problem, further steps are needed to reduce and prevent bullying in the educational environment.

Bullying can cause serious negative impacts for the victim, such as depression, anxiety, and can even lead to suicide in extreme cases. This shows that bullying is not just a simple joke or game, but has devastating consequences for an individual's mental well-being.

Schools and teachers have an important role in overcoming bullying. They must ensure that the learning environment is safe and supportive for all students. This involves implementing a zero tolerance policy towards bullying, as well as providing education about the importance of respecting differences and valuing the uniqueness of each individual.

Education about bullying must start early, both at school and at home. Children need to be taught the importance of respecting others and how to resolve conflicts peacefully. By increasing awareness about the negative impacts of bullying and how to prevent it, we can form a generation that is more caring and empathetic towards others.

Cultural changes in schools are also needed to overcome bullying. This includes building an inclusive community, where every student feels accepted and valued regardless of their differences. By creating a supportive environment, we can reduce bullying incidents and provide protection for all students.

Bullying is not a problem that can be ignored. With collaboration between schools, teachers, parents, and society as a whole, we can work together to tackle bullying and create a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. In this way, we can protect children's mental and emotional well-being, and shape a kinder, more empathetic society.
